A little preparation helps
Confirm numbers, a start time and a realistic finishing time. Choose a table with enough space and light. Read the rules in advance rather than asking the whole group to wait through an unfamiliar rulebook.
Set out a simple sequence
- Begin with a short game or a practice round.
- Move to the main game when everyone is ready.
- Leave time for a final round and packing away.
Teach the goal first
Show what success looks like, what a player does on their turn and when the game ends. Introduce unusual cases when they become relevant. Put drinks away from boards and cards and use a small tray for pieces that roll.
